Speaking and Moving

March 7, 2025

Ah, February. February was a short month, but it feels like a lot of good progress was made on Sleuthhounds: Cruise. I’ve been splitting my time roughly in half to progress both the recorded dialog and the animation for the game.

On the dialog front, I am now down to only needing to cast Colonel Napier Forsythe. I have a recording session for Captain Warwick Windwhistler scheduled for next week and the ship’s steward Emmanuel Laybour hopefully shortly after that.

Beyond those outstanding non-player character (NPC) sessions, I’ve also been continuing to clean and integrate the dialog I’ve recorded previously. Out of the twelve major NPCs I’ve recorded so far, I’ve fully integrated the dialog for nine of them and have done half the dialog for two others. So things are shaping up well on that front.

Over on the character animation side of the fence, I’ve started working my way down the list of characters. Here as well, I’m currently focused on the NPCs rather than the main characters Jane Ampson and Pureluck Homes themselves. Of the game’s fifteen NPCs, I’ve finished animating four of them. There’s also a bucket for various background characters that I’ve done bits and pieces of already.

All told, I’m quite pleased with everything that’s been done in the last month. Moving forward, I’m going to keep pushing on the audio and the animation, but I’m also planning to get back to some of the game programming. The core game is done, but I still need some work done on things like the in-game journal that tracks all manner of useful information for the player. But that’s a tale for another blog.
