Broken Dialog Record

June 7, 2024

I know I’ve been promising it for a while now, and here I am to promise it again. Dialog recording for the Sleuthhounds: Cruise game will be commencing… soon. Before it can, there are two main tasks that need to completed.

Final Finalization of Dialog

Through the course of developing the game, I’ve gone through several complete playthroughs. This includes a couple of very in depth ones needed to create the in-game hint system. Through all of that, I’ve built an issue list of all outstanding items that need to be completed/fixed. On that list were about two dozen items that impacted the dialog in some way.

A few bulletins were needed on the bulletin board, among other things.

I’ve been working away at those items the past two weeks and have that number down to eight. Once that number hits zero, then absolutely all of the game’s dialog will be 100% finalized. At that point, I can employ an automated tool I built that will generate recording scripts for the different characters in the game.

Build a Better Recording Booth

For the previous Sleuthhounds games, I had a setup in my basement consisting of several curtains hanging from the ceiling in a box like arrangement, a cobbled together microphone stand, and a musical stand for holding the recording scripts. All of this was put together in a spare room I wasn’t using.

Now, I’m looking to better utilize that basement space. That means renovations and that means the current recording “booth” needs to go (or has already gone as the case may be). That recording space was always intended to be a temporary setup.

I’ve been getting my ideas together for a design for a new recording booth. In addition to being a bit more refined, I want something that can be easily disassembled and stored away when not needed. I doubt construction will have started by the time I next post, but I hope to at least have the design completed. We shall see.
