Sneaking at Sunset

September 1, 2023

A significant milestone has been reached in the development of Sleuthhounds: Cruise. I have now completed work on all the room backgrounds and the scripting that goes with all the rooms. Today’s screenshot seems fitting as I finish one phase of development and transition into another.

During the game, there are opportunities to follow various characters to see where they’re going and what they’re up to. One such “chase” results in following the colonel to the pool deck. Once there, it’s necessary to use appropriate ground cover to get even closer to him to learn why he’s there. It’s one of those sections that changes the typical point-and-click formula to provide a little more variety.

As Ampson proceeds across the room, she’ll duck and take cover behind various objects in order to stay hidden from view. At least she will once the next phase of development is complete. With work on the backgrounds having come to a close, the focus will, in part, be shifting to completing the character sprite animations for the game. The other major task that will be ramping up soon, will be the recording of the game’s dialog. It’s an exciting place to be at in production, as it means that the game is now 100% completable even if most of the animations, spoken lines of dialog, and sound effects are still missing. Onwards!
