HUD\n Why are we here? And where IS here? And--\n\nArthur holds up a hand.\n\n ARTHUR\n Slow down HUD.\n\n<<display "IntroExposition">>
ARTHUR\n Now, about that job. I need a good hacker and I think you might fit the bill.\n\n HUD\n Wait. You can get me out of this?\n\n ARTHUR\n Mm. Or, if you'd prefer, you could spend the next five to twenty in prison.\n\n<<display "IntroDrive">>\n
HUD\n Ladies first.\n\n ROBYN\n (hesitant)\n Thanks.\n\n ROBYN\n (to Arthur)\n Look, I appreciate you guys bailing me out with the cops--\n\n HUD\n (interrupting)\n Me too. Oh. Sorry. Go on.\n\n ROBYN\n Look. Why are we here? What do you want from us?\n\n<<display "IntroExposition">>
HUD\n Robin, with an I? Like the songbird?\n\n ROBYN\n With a Y. Like the, uh...Well, not like a songbird.\n\n HUD\n Oh, don't be modest. I bet you have a really sultry singing voice.\n\n ROBYN\n Uh-huh.\n\n<<display "IntroHUDName">>
HUD\n You competing with me for this job?\n\n Robyn\n I don't even know what this job is. You?\n\n HUD\n Nope.\n\n Robyn\n He said you're a hacker? Well, I'm a catburglar. Guessing we're not up for the same position.\n\n HUD\n There's a good market in stolen cats then?\n\n<<display "IntroHUDName">>
HUD\n Look around. This place is loaded. At least stick around long enough for a coffee and to five-finger discount some of the silverware.\n\n<<display "IntroEnd">>\n
<<set $whyHackArthur = "right">> HUD\n It was the right thing to do.\n\n ARTHUR\n The right thing to do. I like that. Do you know, I do?\n\n<<display "IntroJobOffer">>
CUT TO:\n\nINT. CAMELOT\n\nThe main floor of the manor house is an "open concept" common area for the Knights of the Round Table, a group of thieves who right the wrongs that the justice system is unable to address. The center of the common area contains a pool and various shrubs, plants, flowers, and small trees to give a natural appearance. Two entryways from the front allow access into the common area with a piano and a small bar set up between them. It's in this small area that we find Bors (male in his late fifties and Arthur's right hand man) standing waiting and Robyn leaning against a wall in the foreground, her arms crossed over her chest, one knee raised, its foot kicking the wall behind her. The door of the entryway opens and Arthur steps in drawing Bors's and Robyn's attention.\n\n ARTHUR\n Ah, Bors. Good.\n\nWe switch to HUD's POV as he wheels in behind Arthur.\n\n BORS\n Arthur.\n\n ARTHUR\n Allow me to introduce our new hacker extraordinaire, HUD. Bors, HUD. HUD, Bors.\n\nArthur turns to face Robyn who presses off from the wall and grudgingly walks into view.\n\n ARTHUR\n And this must be our other new recruit.\n\n BORS\n Robyn Chambers.\n\nArthur extends both hands towards Robyn to shake her hand. She keeps her arms crossed.\n\n ARTHUR\n Robyn Chambers. A pleasure to meet you, my dear.\n\n ROBYN\n Right.\n\nArthur lowers his hands his enthusiasm unflagging.\n\n BORS\n Arthur, there's a matter needs discussing. In private.\n\n ARTHUR\n (to Robyn HUD)\n Ah. Pardon me a moment, won't you? I'll be right back.\n\nArthur and Bors step off to the side and start conversing in low tones, leaving Robyn and HUD alone with each other.\n\n HUD\n [[You competing with me for this job?|IntroRobynCompete]]\n [[Robin, with an I? <<set $whyHackArthur = "fun">> HUD\n For the fun of it.\n\n ARTHUR\n Ah! There is a thrill to it, isn't there?\n\n<<display "IntroJobOffer">>
FADE IN\n\nINT. REAR POLICE VAN - NIGHT\n\nHUD is looking down at his wheelchaired legs. We see the same tattoo on his wrist as from the intro scene so we know this is the same character. He wears a digital MONOCLE that the player uses for interactions when not on a computer. ARTHUR, a man in his early sixties and head of the Knights of the Round Table, arrives at the back of the open van, off screen. Police lights are flashing outside.\n\n ARTHUR\n Hello? Hey, hello.\n\n MONOCLE\n (tickertape)\n Move the mouse to the edges of the screen or click and drag to see who's talking to you.\n\nArthur keeps calling to HUD until the player turns to face him.\n\n ARTHUR\n Ah. There we are. You're that hacker fellow, HUD, aren't you? Of course you are.\n\n HUD\n (silent)\n\nArthur looks over his shoulder to the flashing red and blue lights then looks back at HUD.\n\n ARTHUR\n Oh, don't worry. I'm not with the police.\n\n HUD\n Who are you then?\n\n ARTHUR\n A recruiter.\n\n HUD\n You have a job for me? Now? When I'm being arrested?\n\n ARTHUR\n They caught you transfering funds from rich politicians to poor flood victims. Rather altruistic, for a thief. Why do it?\n\n MONOCLE\n (tickertape)\n Click on a response to this man's question.\n\n HUD\n [[For the fun of it.|IntroWhyFun]]\n [[To hide the money I kept for myself.|IntroWhyMoney]]\n [[It was the right thing to do.|IntroWhyRight]]\n
HUD\n Buk-buk, buk-buk, buk, bukaaa.\n\n ROBYN\n Did you just make chicken noises at me?\n\n HUD\n You ARE the one storming out like a four year old.\n\n ROBYN\n You think these people want to welcome us to the "big leagues" out of the goodness of their hearts? At the end of the day, people only ever look out for themselves.\n\n HUD\n So look out for yourself now. Worse case, they try to teach us a trick or two that we already know. You can always storm out again later.\n\n<<display "IntroEnd">>\n
HUD\n Why not stick around and show off your mad skillz?\n\n ROBYN\n Did you just SAY skills with a zed on the end.\n\n HUD\n I'd really like to see what you've got.\n\n ROBYN\n Ha! I bet you would.\n\n HUD\n That's not... I meant, I know how good I am as a hacker. I'm curious to see what that translates into with you as a cat burglar. Who doesn't like to show off a little bit?\n\n<<display "IntroEnd">>
FADE IN\n\nEXT. BUILDING - NIGHT\n\nA POV camera sprints across a darkened lawn towards a distinctive window set into sandstone walls of an otherwise non-descript building.\n\nINT. APARTMENT - NIGHT\n\nTight on a computer display, with the apartment largely shrouded in shadows in the background. We hear the tap of computer keys. On the computer display we see "Hack Initiated".\n\nINT. HALLWAY\n\nThe distinctive window we saw outside is lifted open. It's at the end of a dark hallway lined with paintings. We see the hands of ROBYN, a catburglar in her early twenties, but the rest of her features are in shadow.\n\nINT. APARTMENT\n\nThe hack attempt proceeds on the computer screen with a message of "Security Breached. Connection granted."\n\nINT. HALLWAY\n\nRobyn rolls in through the window.\n\nINT. APARTMENT\n\nThe computer display shows "Accessing financial accounts."\n\nINT. HALLWAY\n\nRobyn slinks down the hallway to a lit room, with a statue on a pedestal.\n\nINT. APARTMENT\n\nThe computer display shows "Transferring funds".\n\nINT. STATUE ROOM\n\nRobyn enters the dimly lit room and takes the statue with a smile. The smile turns to a startled frown as an alarm goes off.\n\nINT. APARTMENT\n\nA red alert alarm emits from the computer as the display puts up a red message of "Hack Detected! Backtrace in progress."\n\nINT. HALLWAY\n\nClose on Robyn's feet running down the hallway towards the window she entered from.\n\nINT. APARTMENT\n\nClose on the keyboard. We see fingers tapping frantically. On the wrist of one hand, prominent in camera, is a distinctive tattoo. It will be revealed later that the hands belong to HUD, a mid-twenties computer hacker.\n\nINT. HALLWAY\n\nA door opens and a security guard steps out. Robyn reels backwards.\n\nINT. APARTMENT\n\nThe display changes to "Backtrace complete. Location compromised."\n\nINT. HALLWAY\n\nRobyn runs the other way. Another guard appears at the other end of the hall and Robyn slows to a halt.\n\nINT. APARTMENT\n\nClose on the typing fingers. The apartment door is in the background. We hear the thud of feet on stairs, then the door is kicked open by a policeman.\n\nFADE OUT\n\n"Robyn HUD" title fades in and zooms in from the back.\n\nFADE OUT\n\n<<display 'IntroHUD'>>
ARTHUR\n You two are here because you're both skilled thieves, in your own ways. And I think you can be even better. You're ready for the big leagues.\n\n BORS\n Almost.\n\n ARTHUR\n You're almost ready for the big leagues.\n\n HUD\n We just need some training?\n\n ARTHUR\n Very observant, that man. Now, if you'll follow Bors, he'll get you two set up. Meanwhile, I have an important appointment to keep and I can't be late. Carry on, Bors. And Robyn, HUD, good luck to you both.\n\nArthur walks away.\n\n ROBYN\n Hey, I didn't say yes to this. I didn't say yes. Annnd he's gone. Great. And training? Screw that noise.\n\nRobyn starts to walk for the door. HUD spins to call after her.\n\n HUD\n Wai-wai, wai-wai, wait!\n\n ROBYN?\n What? You want to share a cab?\n\n HUD\n [[Chickening out?|IntroConvinceChicken]]\n [[Look around. This place is loaded.|IntroConvinceLoot]]\n [[Show off your mad skillz.|IntroConvinceFlattery]]\n
Robyn looks around, then nods.\n\n ROBYN\n OK. Fine. But if they give us homework in this course, I am so out of here.\n\n BORS\n (chuckles)\n If you two are quite ready, then follow me.\n\nFADE OUT\n\nEnd Introduction\n\n
CUT TO:\n\nEXT. CAMELOT - DAWN\n\nA black VAN drives along a cobblestone driveway lined with knee-high walls that are punctuated by square potters with well trimmed evergreens. HUD and Arthur are in the van, unseen.\n\n HUD\n Where are we going for this job of yours?\n\n ARTHUR\n Wait for it, my young friend. And there.\n\nThe camera cranes around from the front of the van towads the rear to show CAMELOT silhouetted by the rising sun. It's a large, two-story, sandstone manor house.\n\n HUD\n This is yours? Whoa.\n\n<<display "IntroRobyn">>

HUD\n Hey, do you know what this is all about?\n\n ROBYN\n Not a clue. But whatever it is, beats the alternative for me.\n\n HUD\n These guys bail you out of jail too?\n\n ROBYN\n I could've gotten away myself, you know.\n\n HUD\n Hey, you say you could've gotten away, I believe you.\n\n<<display "IntroHUDName">>

ROBYN\n So, what kind of name is HUD?\n\n HUD\n A good one. Stands for Heads Up Display. It's a computer term. I'm a computer hacker. It's my alias.\n\n ROBYN\n Yeah, no, I got it.\n\nArthur and Bors return.\n\n ARTHUR\n So good to see you two getting acquainted. Bors here is going to take you down to the training course. Run you through your paces.\n\n ROBYN\n Whoa, whoa! Training?\n\n HUD\n What's this all about?\n\n ARTHUR\n One at a time. One at a time.\n\nRobyn and HUD look at each other.\n\n HUD\n [[Ladies first.|IntroBackgroundLadies]]\n [[Why are we here? And where IS here?|IntroBackgroundQuestions]]\n
